On Saturday, June 27, Woodbridge International ran in our first race, the Faxon Law Group Fairfield Half Marathon & 5k. Starting off early—a cool 8 am—we ran through the beautiful town of Fairfield, CT, with residents outside of their homes cheering us on and providing water in the form of cups and hoses to cool us down. One of the highlights of the race was a rock band that played in their front yard; it was a welcomed motivator.
Once reaching the finish line, we were welcomed with cheers of support and our names announced over the loudspeaker. But what was the best, at least in this author’s mind, was the free food afterword—pizza, vegan cookies and banana bread, orange juice, fruit, protein bars, etc.
After we filled our bellies with carbs and fruit and an immense sense of accomplishment, we went home to relax and nap.
What made this race important for Woodbridge to run was Paul Newman’s The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp charity. This charity provides a unique camping experience for seriously ill children and their families free of charge. The work the team at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp does was inspiration enough for us to participate.
Thanks for all who came and supported this incredible cause and donating to many charities. And if you missed us this year, keep a look out for our name on other races coming up.
